STAR GAZER'S HEAVEN!

Combine the clear, dark skies over Tucson with a
very large telescope and you are in stargazer’s heaven!

Whether you like to take an occasional look or are an old pro at scanning the skies, skywatchers are sure to be pleased that Cat Mountain Lodge Bed & Breakfast has completed Spencer’s Observatory. The observatory bears the name of Kerstin Block’s husband Spencer, who died in September 2009 after a 4 1/2-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Spencer’s Observatory has a retractable roof that exposes a phenomenal panoramic view of the exceptionally dark skies that hover over this particular area of the Tucson Mountains. The observatory houses a 10" Meade LX200 SCG telescope, a Celestron 14" SCT telescope on a GoTo Mount, as well as a Piggy Back 4" Stellar View Refractor. Construction was overseen by Robby Tackett, a local entrepreneur and amateur astronomer who works with the telescopes.

Open to B & B guests and to the public.
